About Live Healthy Union

We love Union County and want our home to be an even better place for our family, friends and community. 

Who?

Live Healthy Union (LHU) is a community health coalition made up of local organizations, schools, healthcare partners, faith-based organizations, nonprofits, government agencies, and residents all working together to make Union County a healthier place to live, learn, work, and play. We bring people together around a shared mission: to improve the health, well-being, and quality of life for everyone in Union County.

Located in Union County, we focus on ensuring everyone has the chance to live a healthy, safe, and fulfilling life. At the heart of our work is a simple belief: when a community comes together, health improves, opportunities grow, and people thrive. We align our efforts with Live Healthy South Carolina to strengthen our local strategies and connect them with statewide goals.

What?

We work by listening to the community, bringing partners together, and using data to guide meaningful action. We focus on equity, collaboration, and sustainable solutions that strengthen the health and well-being of Union County. 

Why?

We work to remove barriers and improve health because every person in Union County deserves the chance to live well. We bring partners together to create solutions that help our community thrive.

How?

We bring people together, listen to the community, and use data to guide action. Through committees, partnerships, trainings, and community projects, we turn ideas into real solutions that improve health and well-being across Union County.

Our Timeline

  • 2009

    The Union County Indicators Project identifies public health as a priority area.

  • 2016

    Union County begins supporting public health programs, launching a social media campaign to promote access to healthy foods and physical activity.

  • 2019

    Eat Smart Move More is selected by the South Carolina Office of Rural Health’s Blueprint for Health program. Blueprint for Health is an 18-month endeavor that includes a leadership training course, development of a community project focused on improving a specific root cause of poor health, and the creation of a vision for community health.

  • 2021 - 2025

    FoodShare Union County was established by the Robinhood Group in June 2021. In the Fall of 2025, Live Healthy Union dedicated funding toward its Community Kitchen.

  • 2022

    Eat Smart, Move More rebranded as Live Healthy Union and began strategic planning with partners, launching their first Community Health Improvement Plan.

  • 2025

    Live Healthy Union launches its 2024 Community Health Needs Assessment in partnership with Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System.

  • 2025

    Live Healthy Union is awarded $100,000 through the Healthy People, Healthy Carolinas program funded by The Duke Endowment. The priority focus for these funds is Healthy Eating and Active Living.

  • 2026

    Live Healthy Union awarded a 5-year implementation grant through Healthy People Healthy Carolinas and launched their 2026-2028 Community Health Improvement Plan with focus areas including: Behavioral Health, Chronic Health Conditions, and Resilient Children and Families. Two other areas of focus include Community Engagement and Policy/Advocacy efforts.
